I'm a few months late, but I have some exciting news to share! Back in October 2015, I entered my first photography contest with Photographer's Forum Magazine for their 36th Annual College & High School Photography Contest. My professor handed out a slip about it and I thought, "what the heck!" I had nothing to lose. So, I entered 3 photos with no expectations at all. I actually forgot about it until the end of January. I was getting my mail when I noticed a letter under my name. Out of the thousands of people who submitted, I was a finalist for my rose photo! In the letter they said they would be announcing the winners February 12. I was so happy to be finalist that I knew it didn't matter if I won or not. I was excited just to be published in a book!
Fast forward a few weeks later, it was February 12th and I didn't get any notification. Although I didn't expect anything, I admit I was little disappointed but nonetheless still felt very accomplished. Until a few days after, I received another letter in the mail. I opened it right away and almost cried. I won first place! In that very moment, I've never been so proud of myself.
The amount of support and congratulations I received from my family, friends, and professors left me speechless. It might still be early into 2016, but this is the highlight of my year so far. Since then, I've only been more and more motivated to get my creative juices flowing. In just a few short weeks, I'll be graduating college and I can't wait for what's next!
Also, I just got word that I was chosen to be a commencement leader at graduation to represent my concentration, PhotoCommunications! Can't believe 4 years have flown by just like that.
